catching up with black metal.
Yeah, so, I haven't been listening to much black metal for the last several months, favoring death and doom — Cryptopsy, Vital Remains, Obituary, Khanate, Burning Witch, other stuff like Finntroll, etc. I finally got around to hearing Weakling's Dead as Dreams
, though, and it's the first BM record I've felt this passionate about in ages. Now I go look at the metal section in Amoeba and realize I have no fucking clue who half of these black metal bands are. Who ever said black metal was dead hasn't been paying attention, I guess.
So, what's good? I'd be thrilled to hear anything as stellar as Weakling.
What albums have you heard this year that stand out?( Here's a write-up of the Weakling album. You can tell me if it sucks.Collapse )
I also recently got around to checking out Ludicra, another (still active) black metal band in San Francisco (Oakland, actually, but close enough). They seem decent — a bit reminiscent of earlier Satyricon with two females vocalists that thankfully avoid sounding too "gothy" or "romantic". I'm told they're a great live band, and they're playing at El Rio (in the Mission) this weekend.

Imperial Crystaline Entombment, better than Immortal
I have bought this bands newest CD, and personally I find it to be one of the best black metal efforts in a long time. Anyone who like cold and dark black metal needs this album - Apocolyptic end in White. Buy now! For it is your destiny! Current Mood: contemplative

Could someone please help me to get more Thorns mp3's?
I already have the Thorns album from 2001 and "The Discipline of Earth" and "Fairytales" but I really wanna have more.. I'm especially interested in the Grymyrk demo. If someone could send some mp3's to me (using gmail or MSN or whatever) I would be extremely grateful!!
And I just found this interview with Snorre Current Mood: hopeful
I guess it must be pretty old, but I hadn't read it yet so it's still interesting to read..

Choronzon - Panic Pandemic
Former Nocturnal Art Productions artist Choronzon are getting ready to release their fourth album in July. With their usual tendency toward overload, simply throwing a Cd out into the world doesn't suffice. This one contains much more. It is a magickally charged object, the result of a process of rituals performed over a long period of time.
The pre-order page is now up for Panic Pandemic
! As I said earlier, the initial volume will be a full color book with writings and tons
of art in a limited edition of 333 copies, (of course), copies will be signed and numbered and will come with two full-length CDs of brand new material.
The release is set for the middle of July for this, then New World Chaos
will be unleashed, leaving an opening to the Abyss in time-space continuum. There are some details on the order page, which shall be updated frequently over the next week.
The podcast and other items will be removed on the release date, so grab them while you can. I'll put the buttons here as well, out of crass commercial motivations. Those of you who don't have access to Paypal can email me to make other arrangements.Order here
while you can.
And, I'have something for you right now. I haven't forgotten my earlier promise. The first of the promised freebies is the podcast of the entire first CD included in the book:
The first thirteen songs are from the album, followed by a few other items. Play it loud!

Any reviews of the new Nattefrost?
Does anyone know of any decent BM cassette trading communities or has the internet successfully killed them all off?
